Over a weekend in February, Scotiabank and Hackworks gathered the brightest budding technology and finance entrepreneurs to participate in the <a href="https://hackworks.com/scotiabank-hackit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Scotiabank Hack IT: Debt Challenge</a> and change the future of debt management.

Over 100 developers, designers, and FinTech enthusiasts came together to develop inventive solutions that utilized modern technology. Their focus for this challenge was to create a digital experience that helps Canadians better manage their debt and be financially better off!

Participants formed teams and collaborated with financial experts to build tools that kickstarted the development of real solutions. They descended from all over to take part in the 40-hour hackathon at the Scotiabank Centre and submitted 24 solutions for better debt management. Mentors from Scotiabank, IBM Bluemix, Google and the Scotiabank Digital Factory were on site throughout the weekend helping out and answering participants&rsquo; questions with their expertise in UX, Coding, Business, and Analytics.
 
After a weekend of coding, designing and analyzing, 24 Scotiabank Hack IT teams presented demos of their solutions to fellow participants, invited guests, and judges. $25,000 in prizes were awarded to three winning teams along with the opportunity to interview for open positions at Scotiabank&rsquo;s Digital Factory, an incubator dedicated to finding customer-driven solutions for digital banking experiences.
